Stroke Research Network – NIHR

Description

The National Institute for Health Research Stroke Research Network provides support for clinical stroke research to take place n the NHS, so that patients benefit from new and better treatments and we learn how to improve future NHS healthcare.

Our purpose is to provide the health service infrastructure to facilitate the conduct of clinical trials and other well designed studies in stroke across the full spectrum of disease treatment and secondary prevention through our local networks and national coordinating centre.

Public involvement in research

The NIHR Stroke Research Network  (SRN) recognises the importance of involving people who have had a stroke and their carers within research. We are committed to involving patients and carers at all levels of the organisation and within all levels of the research.

To ensure inclusion of patients and carer perspective, lay members sit on each of our Clinical Studies Groups, they attend meetings, related workshops. Appointments have been made to other key national committees within the NIHR SRN.

Local networks have appointed lay members who contribute to a variety of activities within their regions including:

Commenting on research proposals, teaching on programmes, presenting at conferences, sitting on steering group committees, developing patient information leaflets.
